Kansas Clinches Series Over Baylor Baseball

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Baylor baseball (9-18, 2-6) dropped its sixth in a row as Kansas (11-14, 2-3) clinched the series with a 13-6 victory on Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan.

Sophomore INF Hunter Teplanszky had a two-hit day, including his third home run of the season, and drove in a pair, while junior INF/OF Cole Posey extended his team-leading hitting streak to 11 games. Junior LHP/OF Kobe Andrade tallied two extra-base hits, moving his total to 13 XBH on the year, and junior RHP/OF Cole Tremain collected his first-career hit, a two-run double, in the loss.

THE RUNDOWN
For the second day in a row, KU jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the bottom of the first frame, but Baylor would answer with three runs of its own in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead. Andrade tripled off the left-field wall to score a run, then crossed the plate on a groundout from freshman INF Kolby Branch. With the bases empty, Teplanszky delivered a 413-foot blast for his third round-tripper of the year.

The Jayhawks responded to tie the game in the bottom half with a run, then broke things open with a four-spot in the fourth to go ahead 7-3. Teplanszky’s RBI single in the top of the fifth cut it to 7-4, but KU got that run back in the sixth with an RBI single of its own.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kansas showed no signs of slowing down as another three runs came around, making it 11-4. Tremain’s two-run double in the eighth brought the Bears back within five, but again the Jayhawks would respond with two of their own in the bottom half for the final runs of the game.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Baylor dropped to 61-25 all-time against Kansas.
• Sophomore INF Hunter Teplanszky extended his team-leading on-base streak to 15 games with his eighth multi-hit game of the year.
• Teplanszky became the fourth Bear to hit his third home run this season, joining Kolby Branch, Gavin Brzozowski and John Ceccoli.
• Teplanszky also collected his third multi-RBI game of 2023.
• Branch reached base for the 26th time in 27 games with a double in the ninth inning.
• Junior RHP/OF Cole Tremain recorded his first-career hit, a two-run double, in the eighth.
• Junior INF/OF Cole Posey extended his team-leading hitting streak to 11 games.
• Junior LHP/OF Kobe Andrade notched his fourth multi-hit game, as now 13 of his 16 hits on the season have gone for extra bases.
