HOCKLEY, Texas – Baylor men’s golf came up just short in its matches on Tuesday with a 6-0-0 loss to Oklahoma in the morning and a 3-1-2 loss to Kansas in the afternoon at the Big 12 Match Play Championship.

Luke Dossey secured BU’s only full point with a 2&1 win over Kansas' William Duquette, while Jonas Appel and Zach Heffernan secured half points with ties against Will King and Davis Cooper, respectively.

THE RUNDOWN
Match 1 vs. Oklahoma
Johnny Keefer dropped his match to Stephen Campbell Jr. 2&1. The senior from San Antonio took a 1-up lead through two holes before Campbell took the lead back three holes later with wins at Nos 12 and 14. Keefer got back to even with a birdie at No. 16, but Campbell parred 17 to go back in front, where he stayed for the remainder of the match.

Luke Dossey fell 2&1 to OU’s Jase Summy in the morning session. The senior from Austin birdied his first hole of the day at No. 12 to take a 1-up lead. His lead would grow to 2-up at No. 14 before Summy pulled back to even with wins at Nos. 14 and 15. The two remained tied through eight holes before Dossey broke back on top at No. 2 and then again at No. 5, but four-straight wins by Summy at Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 10 would close out the match 3&1.

Jonas Appel lost his match 3&1 to Drew Goodman. The freshman bogeyed his first hole of the day to fall 1-down after one but went in front with wins at Nos. 13, 14 and 15. He was 1-up through nine before Goodman won Nos. 2 and 3 to take back the lead. After an Appel win at No. 4 to even things, Goodman took control of the match with wins on Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8 to close out Appel.

Trey Bosco fell 3&2 in his match against Jaxon Dowell. Starting on no. 11, Dowell looked to be in control early with wins at Nos. 13, 14, 16 and 17 to get to 4-up through eight. Bosco came back with birdies at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 to get back to 1-down through 12. The two traded wins at Nos. 5 and 6 before Dowell closed things out with wins at Nos. 7 and 8.

Zach Heffernan dropped his match 4&2 against Oklahoma's Patrick Welch. Heffernan struck first with a par on his first hole of the day at No. 11 and added another win at No. 15 to get to 2-up. Two-straight wins by Welch, though, pulled him back into a tie with Heffernan at the turn. Welch strung together wins at Nos. 3, 4, 6 and 8 to win the match after 16 holes.

Tyler Isenhart dropped his match 6&4 to OU's Jake Holbrook during Tuesday's morning session. The two battled to a tie through three holes before Holbrook won No. 15 with a birdie to go 1-up. Holbrook went 2-up through nine thanks to par at No. 1 and finished off the match with wins at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 7.

Match 2 vs. Kansas
Dossey opened the match with a birdie on his first hole at No. 16 to take a 1-up lead before Duquette squared things up with a birdie at No. 18. Duquette took his first lead with a par at No. 3 and held a 1-up lead after nine when Dossey won three-straight from Nos. 8-10 to go 2-up. His lead ballooned to 3-up through 15 holes, and he would clinch the match with a par on the 14th hole.

Appel opened his match with three-straight halves before getting his first win of the match at No. 18 to take a 1-up lead. Wins at Nos. 2 and 3 pushed his lead to 3-up through seven, when Cooper whittled it back down to 1-up through nine. Appel got back to 3-up with wins at Nos. 6 and 7, but Cooper kept chipping away with wins at Nos. 8, 11 and 14, the final hole of the match.

Heffernan battled back throughout his match after falling 2-down through three holes. The sophomore from Boerne kept the match there through 12 holes but won two-straight holes at Nos. 9 and 10 to draw even through 14. Heffernan took his first lead of the day with a win at No. 12, but Cooper won the final hole at No. 13 to halve the match.

Bosco dropped his second match of the day 2&1 to Kansas’ Sion Audrain. The junior from Austin won his first two holes at Nos. 15 and 16 to take a 2-up lead, but gave it back with wins by Audrain at Nos. 17 and 2. Bosco went back on top after a win at No. 5, but two-straight wins by Audrain gave him his first lead of the match on No. 8. Bosco tied the match one final time at No. 10 before Audrain closed things out with wins at Nos. 11 and 13.

Drew Wrightson subbed in for Tyler Isenhart in the afternoon session but fell 3&1 to Kansas’ Cecil Belsle. Wrightson had control of the match with wins on each of the first two holes of the match. He held a 2-up lead through eight when Belsle won four-straight holes to take a 2-up lead. A win at No. 12 for Belsle put the match away.

Keefer fell 3&2 in his afternoon match to Gunnar Broin. Keefer picked up a win at No. 17 to take the first lead, but Broin got wins at Nos. 18 and 1 to take the lead.
