DALLAS, Texas – Baylor men’s golf finished off a 23-under 841 on Tuesday to secure a third-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Luke Dossey, Tyler Isenhart and Johnny Keefer shot 3-under 69's to lead BU to its best 54-hole stroke-play tournament since a second-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate in January of 2020.

Arkansas Little Rock took home the team title with a 31-under 833, three shots clear of second-place SMU. Playing as an individual, BU's Jonas Appel tied for 7th, six shots back of SMU's Nathan Petronzio, who took home individual medalist honors with a 13-under 203.

THE RUNDOWN
Luke Dossey secured a third-straight top-12 finish recording a tie for 10th on Tuesday, with a 3-under 69. Dossey opened with a birdie at No. 1 and followed with eight-straight pars to close out the front nine. A birdie at No. 10 got him to 2-under for the round, before giving one back with a bogey at No. 13. He finished strong playing his final five holes at 2-under, highlighted by birdies at Nos. 15 and 16.

Tyler Isenhart shot a 3-under 69, his third-straight round at par or better, on Tuesday to secure a tie for 13th. The senior started steadily with six-straight pars until a birdie at No. 7 got him into red figures through nine holes. Two more birdies at Nos. 14 and 18 polished off his bogey-free 69.

Johnny Keefer shot a 3-under 69 for the second-straight day to climb 15 spots in the final round to tie for 27th. The senior started strong with an eagle at No. 2 but gave back three shots on the next two holes with a double bogey and a bogey to drop back over par. He would stay there with a birdie at No. 5 and a bogey at No. 6, but would get back to even with a birdie at the par-4 ninth. Keefer rode that momentum into his back nine and made birdies at Nos. 12, 14, 16 and 17, before a closing bogey at No. 18.

Zach Heffernan carded his second under-par round of the event with a 1-under 71 to tie for 20th. The sophomore birdied No. 2, but bogeyed Nos. 4 and 6 to fall to 1-over through nine holes. He got back to even with a birdie at No. 10 before making his final bogey of the day at No. 13. Heffernan closed strong with birdies at Nos. 14 and 16 to finish his round.

Trey Bosco finished tied for 32nd on the heels of a 2-over 74 in the final round. After a birdie at No. 2, he made bogeys at Nos. 3 and 9 to get to 1-over at the turn. Following a birdie at No. 14, he bogeyed three of his final four holes to finish at 2-over.

Appel tied for 7th, his second-straight top-10 as an individual on the strength of his third round at par or better this week in Dallas. Starting on the back nine, he birdied No. 10 but fell back to even par with a bogey-birdie-bogey stretch between Nos. 13 and 15. He closed his opening nine strong with a birdie at No. 18 and kept the momentum going on his inward nine with birdies at Nos. 2 and 5. His lone blemish on the front nine was a bogey at No. 8.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Mike McGraw on the team’s trajectory: “We're continuing a trend, which is what we've been looking for. Last year, we never could get our feet on the ground, and we never got any positive momentum. We haven't necessarily played great golf yet, but since day one of this year, you can see the little incremental improvements, which is great. We got to 23-under, which I was very happy with, but you can see this group's momentum building."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bears will compete in the Big 12 Match Play Oct. 17-19 at the Golf Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas. For more information on Baylor Men’s Golf, follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
