Baylor MT’s Bass Moves into Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. – Baylor men’s tennis had three competing on Tuesday in the second day of the ITA All-American Championship qualifying rounds. Finn Bass went undefeated, advancing into the main draw of the tournament.



THE RUNDOWN

Bass opened the day for Baylor with a match against a familiar foe from TCU, Sander Jong, who is currently ranked No. 58 in the ITA preseason rankings. Pulling out the three-set victory, Bass defeated Jong 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 in the round of 64.



With limited time between matches, Bass returned to the courts for a round of 32 bout against Portland’s Sema Pankin. His 7-6(3), 6-4 win boosts him into the main draw of the tournament, which begins play Wednesday morning.



Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi had his second round of singles play on Tuesday, fighting hard but falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to Clemson’s Ryuhei Azuma.

Zsombor Velcz took part in the single-match consolation play, trading the first two sets with his opponent from Vanderbilt, Joubert Klopper, before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears return to action on Wednesday for the beginning rounds of the ITA All-American Championship Main Draws. Bass and Tadeas Paroulek are set in the main draw, while Bass pairs with Grassi Mazzuchi in doubles.
