Baylor VB’s McGhee Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Baylor volleyball’s Kara McGhee has been named the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week in week 13, announced Tuesday by the conference.

Against Iowa State, the senior middle blocker had her 500th career block to move her into sixth all-time at Baylor and third in the rally-scoring era for the Bears. She finished the ISU match with seven blocks overall, including one solo. Against top-ranked Texas, McGhee tallied six blocks to total 510 blocks overall in her four-year career at BU.

McGhee had the second-most blocks on the week out of the league with 13 and third-most blocks per set with 1.63.

This is McGhee’s second defensive award of the year from the conference and her sixth all-time. She earned one Rookie of the Week honor in her freshman season.

With McGhee’s accolade, the Bears have tallied eight conference weekly honors this season.

WHAT’S NEXT
The San Antonio native will be celebrated on Saturday alongside Cassie Davis, Lauren Harrison and Mallory Talbert for senior day against Kansas State, also closing out the regular season with the match. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.

The Bears will wait for their name to be called in the 2022 NCAA Volleyball Selection Show, airing on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
