WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field inked six to their 2023 fall signing class, head coach Michael Ford announced Thursday.



“I am super excited about our early recruiting class,” said Ford. “Coach (Brandon) Richards added three phenomenal female vaulters, led by Molly Haywood who is nationally ranked in the top-10. Coach (Ben) Dalton is amazing on securing Demario Prince, Yusuf Ali Abbas and Calisha Taylor to sign with us, too.”



This early signing class includes three vaulters from Texas and three international sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers that will join the team for the Fall 2023 semester.



“I am thrilled and feeling very blessed to welcome these three high caliber pole vaulters into the Baylor family,” said pole vault volunteer assistant Brandon Richards. “The future is bright for Baylor women’s pole vault!”



The Bears are coming off a program-record setting season that saw 20 entries advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The first meet of the 2023 season is set for Jan. 13-14 at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.



Alencia Lentz – Pole Vault – Spring Branch, Texas

2022 Texas UIL 4A State Champion … 2021 Virginia VHSL State Champion, indoor and outdoor … Cleared 13-6 at the state meet, 13-4 at the regional meet, and 13-2 ½ at the Texas Relays … Daughter of Bradley and Monica Lentz … Has one brother – Bryce.



Katelyn Andrews – Pole Vault – Conroe, Texas

Champion of the Mac Vault Academy High School Championships … Holds a personal-best of 13 feet … Record holder for JV and varsity teams at The Woodlands College Park High School … Member of National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society … Top 15% … Daughter of Trent and Cynthia Andrews … Has three siblings – Claire, Abigail and Caroline.



Molly Haywood – Pole Vault – Tomball, Texas

Holds personal-bests of 14-4 in outdoor and 14-0 indoor … 2022 Texas UIL 6A State Champion with a meet record of 14-3 … Won Region 2-6A meet with 14-4 and set a new meet record … Won silver at the AAU National Outdoor Championships … Cleared 14-1 as a sophomore at the Mac Vault Summer Championships … Top 10% of her class … Member of the National Honor Society … Daughter of Andrew and Jill … Has one brother – Ben.



Demario Prince – Hurdles, Long Jump – Jamaica

Advanced to the finals of the 2022 Junior World Championships in Cali in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 13.58 in the semifinal round … Jamaican U20 long jump Champion with a mark of 23-9 ½.



Yusuf Ali Abbas – Sprints – Bahrain

Bronze medalists at the World U20 Championships in the 400m with a mark of 45.80 … Champion of the Arab U20 Championships in Radés, Tunisia … Won the Bahrain U20 200m title in 2022.



Calisha Taylor – Hurdles, Sprints – Jamaica

Will run two season at New Mexico Junior College … 400mH NJCAA National Champion in the 400mH, silver medalist in the 4x400 … Collegiate best time of 58.80 was set at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock … Set a meet record and won the title at the 2017 edition of the U17 CARIFTA Games … Bronze medalist at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in the 4x400m.
