WACO, Texas – Baylor’s Alicia Herrero and Mel Krywoj begin their NCAA Doubles Championships run on Tuesday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill. This marks the first time since 2016 and the ninth time under head coach Joey Scrivano that Baylor has had a doubles tandem selected for the tournament.



By receiving a national seed, Herrero and Krywoj are All-Americans. They are the 10th and 11th Bears to earn the honor in program history. In the Scrivano era, the duo is the third to receive the automatic honor and first since 2013. Overall, eight duos have been dubbed All-Americans since 2003.



With times to be announced later, Herrero and Krywoj are slated to face Wake Forest’s Casie Wooten and Samantha Martinelli. The Demon Deacons tandem, currently ranked No. 27, is 12-7 on the season with a 4-1 record against ranked foes and is 4-1 in its last five matches.



In the fall, Krywoj and Herrero played another Wake Forest duo, then top-seeded Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth. The Bears took down the Demon Deacons in three sets.



The Big 12’s automatic qualifiers have had a season for the record books in 2021-22. The duo began the year winning the ITA Regionals in October before finishing as national semifinalists a month later at the ITA Fall Nationals.



Behind a strong start to dual-play action, the duo rose to a No. 1 national ranking, the first one in program history. The first-team All-Big 12 doubles team finished dual action with a 16-5 record, including a 5-3 mark in conference play. On the season, Herrero and Krywoj racked up a 6-4 record against ranked foes.
