THE RUNDOWN
BURLESON, Texas – No. 6-ranked and four-seed Baylor equestrian (6-7) dropped a tight 10-9 contest to No. 1 Oklahoma State (11-2) on Friday afternoon at Diamond Creek Ranch in Burleson.

The Bears took an early lead with dominant Jumping Seat wins, but OSU came from behind with solid Western scores to steal the victory and advance in the 2022 Big 12 Championship.

BU set the tone off the bat with a 3-2 win in Fences, as Emma Fletcher (156), Savannah Hemby (165) and Maddie Vorhies (160) collected points.

Next up was Reining and the Cowgirls responded with a 3-1 event win to pull ahead, 5-4. Andie Pratt was the sole point winner with a 139 mark, while Madaline Callaway knotted her matchup at 142.5.

Baylor answered right back with a dominant 4-1 victory in Flat to go in front 8-6 in the meet. The four points were scored by Fletcher (160.5), Caroline Fuller (156.5), Madi Mitchell (152) and Vorhies (167).

However, it was Horsemanship that decided the meet as OSU took the event, 4-1. Bella Rosa tallied the lone point for the Bears in the event with a 142.5.

NOTABLES
• Seven Bears made their Big 12 Championship debuts, including Shelby Clausen (Reining), Emma Fletcher (Jumping Seat), Daisy Kaufman (Reining), Madi Mitchell (Jumping Seat), Bella Rosa (Horsemanship), Dominika Silvestri (Flat) and Nadalee Vasquez (Horsemanship).
• Two Bears earned points in both Jumping Seat events, including Fletcher and Maddie Vorhies.

TOP QUOTES
Head coach Casie Maxwell
On today’s meet…
“The team rode extremely hard. They put their hearts out there. Jumping Seat was absolutely amazing. They were able to really hold their own. They went above and beyond in Fences and in Flat. They were tremendous. It was not a lack of effort in Reining. There were some penalties that got in our way. Horsemanship rode outstanding, but points fell the other direction. I can’t fault them for going out and trying to beat the No. 1 team. They put everything into their rides. I would’ve been more disappointed had we played it safe and left room to be beaten. They didn’t do that today. Tomorrow, they just have to turn it around. Come out and decide to finish up this weekend 1-1 versus 0-2.”

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor (6-7) will face No. 8-ranked and third-seed Fresno State (6-9) in the consolation round of the 2022 Big 12 Championship on Saturday, March 26, with first ride set for 9:30 a.m. CT from TCU’s Diamond Creek Ranch in Burleson.
