WACO, Texas – Gontse Morake qualified to the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore., Athletics South Africa announced Friday morning. The sophomore, coming off her All-America season in the 4x400-meter relay, is set to compete on South Africa’s 4x400 and mixed relay teams for a chance at the title.



Morake will be competing against fellow All-American and 4x4 team member Imaobong Uko on Team Nigeria, Friday, July 15, at 1:45 p.m. CT. She will also run for the 4x400 title the following Saturday at 7:10 p.m. CT.



The 2022 World Athletics Championships begin on July 15 from Hayward Field in Eugene. This is the first time that the event has been held on US soil. Nathaniel Ezekiel, Uko and alumni Trayvon Bromell have already qualified for the senior championships, while Laurenz Colbert qualified for the junior world championships in Columbia held the first week of August.
