EUGENE, Ore. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling’s Emily Tobin and Bayley Humphrey earned postseason awards from the NCATA, announced Tuesday by the organization.

Senior top and tumbler Tobin earned Most Outstanding Athlete of the Year after earning the Athlete of the Week award five times during the regular season. The Templeton, Calif., native earns the award for the second-consecutive season as she competes in 12-13 heats of every meet for the Bears. With her help, BU averages a 9.50 or higher in 10 heats this season.

Tobin has been a vital part of all five perfect 10 scores Baylor earned in the regular season. In her individual tumbling pass, the six-element, she averages a 9.733 score. A major contributor in the team event, Tobin assists Baylor in averaging a 97.74 in the event this season. The Bears have had two team event scores over 100 points with her on the mat. She has been competing several of the newer elements BU has helped introduce to the sport, including hand-to-hand and foot-to-hand connections.

Humphrey, a native of Chandler, Ariz., earns her first major NCATA award, being named Division I Specialist of the Year. The sophomore base is a key component in the pyramid event for Baylor. She started the season as a base in the synchronized and open pyramid heats before becoming part of all three lineups. Since competing in her first inversion pyramid heat against Saint Leo in the fourth meet of the season, Humphrey has helped BU average a score of 9.88 or higher in each of the pyramid heats.

She has been a part of all five perfect scores Baylor has earned, three of which came in heat three of pyramid. The other two were in the synchronized pyramid heat. She was a three-time Specialist of the Week honoree, and has helped raise the bar in the sport by serving as a solo base in never-before-competed elements. Humphrey consistently bases two different tops for Baylor in the acrobatics portion of the meet, sporting hand-to-hand and foot-to-hand connections, including the straddle-to-low hand-to-hand, one-arm flag with split, and the high hand-to-hand with back arch. She’s the only base in the country to compete seven single-base elements in a singular heat.

Humphrey, Tobin and the No. 1-seeded acrobatics & tumbling squad take on eighth-seeded Converse on Thursday, Apr. 28, at 6:30 p.m. CT.
