            While the regular-season opener is still two weeks away, the Nicki Collen<https://baylorbears.com/staff.aspx?staff=662> era of Baylor women's basketball begins Wednesday night with an exhibition game against Division II Texas A&M-Commerce that will tip at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
            The WNBA Coach of the Year in 2018 with the Atlanta Dream, Collen was hired in May to replace Hall of Fame coach Kim Mulkey.
            Led by returning first-team All-American forward NaLyssa Smith<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10721>, the Bears are picked to win their 12th-straight Big 12 title and are ranked seventh in the Associated Press preseason poll that was released last week.
            Also named to the AP preseason All-America team, the 6-2 Smith averaged 18.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season while shooting a team-best 56.1 percent from the floor. She is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year after leading Baylor to a 28-3 record, winning the regular-season and conference tournament championships and advancing to the Elite Eight.
            Queen Egbo<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10718>, a 6-3 senior center, averaged a career-high 11.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game last season and is the team's only other returning starter.
Senior forward Caitlin Bickle<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10717>, junior guard Jaden Owens<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10720> and sophomore guard Sarah Andrews<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10716> are returning letterwinners, while former All-Big Ten guard Kamaria McDaniel<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10719> redshirted last season after transferring from Penn State.
            Grad transfer Jordan Lewis<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10723>, a second-team All-SEC pick last year at Alabama, was named Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year after averaging a career-high 17.0 points and 4.2 assists. The Bears also added 5-5 guard Ja'Mee Asberry<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10724>, a transfer from Oklahoma State who earned second-team All-Big 12 honors, 6-2 freshman forward Kendra Gillispie<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10725> from Oklahoma City and 5-10 freshman guard Andrea Katramados<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=11097> from Montgomery, N.J.
            A&M-Commerce, which finished 14-4 last season under head coach Jason Burton, returns a pair of WBCA honorable mention All-Americans in 6-0 sophomore forward DesiRay Kernal and 5-7 sophomore guard Dyani Robinson. Two years ago, the Lions were 28-3 and ranked in the top 20 nationally in the NCAA Division II coaches' poll when the season was cut short by COVID-19.
            Baylor will wrap up exhibition play with a game at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 3, before opening the regular season on Nov. 9 with another 7 p.m. tipoff time versus Texas State.
