Four MT Players into R16 Singles
Bears advance the most of any school to the next singles round in the Regional.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis finished the first day of the main draw singles competition at the ITA Texas Regionals on Friday sending four men into the round of 16, the most of any school at the tournament.

Finn Bass, No. 1 seed Adrian Boitan, No. 7 seed Sven Lah, and No. 6 seed Tadeas Paroulek defeated their opponents in the singles round of 32 to qualify for the round of 16.

Bass defeated Kyohei Yamanaka of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round 6-4, 6-1. He then met Texas A&M’s Giulio Perego, the No. 14 seed, and took him down after a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) battle. Bass will face No. 3 seed Luc Fomba of Big 12 rival TCU on Saturday in the round of 16.

Boitan took qualifier Emir Sendogan of Rice 6-1, 6-1 to face ACU’s Dario Kmet. He took down Kmet 6-3, 6-1 to advance and will face Juan Carlos Aguilar of the Horned Frogs on Saturday.

Lah was dealt Nathan Schwartz of TAMU-CC in round one, who he defeated 6-1, 6-2. In the next round, he faced the Aggies’ Rahul Dhokia, and advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Lah will take on another TAMU opponent in Matthis Ross in the round of 16.

Paroulek had Incarnate Word’s Ivan Smith in the first round, whom he defeated 6-2, 6-3 to see Ilgiez Valiev of Texas Tech. He defeated the Red Raider 6-1, 6-4 and will battle with Texas A&M’s Raphael Perot on Saturday.

Jacob Brumm and Ethan Muza both competed valiantly in their round of 32 singles competition, but fell to their opponents. Brumm finished with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision against Micah Braswell of Texas, while Muza fell 6-4, 7-6(6) to SMU’s Adam Neff.

In the qualifier consolation round, Justin Braverman had a bye, and then defeated Noah DeLuna of UIW 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles competition also kicked off on Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center, with two of the three BU doubles pairs drawing a bye.

While the pairs of Lah/Bass and Paroulek/Brumm rested, Muza and Braverman met with Incarnate Word’s Joao Sasso and Warren Fulgenzi. The Bears defeated the Cardinals 8-6 and will face Texas Tech’s Ilgiez Valiev and Demetris Azoides in round two.

Lah and Bass will see TAMUCC’s pair, Ata and Yamanaka in round two, while pair Paroulek and Brumm will face Trinity Grear and Emir Sendogan of Rice.
