WACO, Texas – No. 7 Baylor volleyball stomped Iowa State on Friday night in the Ferrell Center, defeating the Cyclones 3-0.

The Bears (17-5, 11-2) trounced ISU (16-10, 8-7) in three sets, taking them down 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.

BU was strong behind the power of Avery Skinner who recorded a double-double on the night. Skinner had 16 kills on 27 attempts for a .556 attack percentage, while also digging 12 balls. The graduate transfer led the team in both kills and digs.

Many different student-athletes had a hand in the win, with six players coming off the bench. Callie Williams came into the match in the first set as a serving specialist and started the third frame as the setter. Lauren Harrison was involved in all three sets, recording the second-most kills on the team with 10.

Baylor is now on a nine-match winning streak against Iowa State and has evened the series with the Cyclones on its home court of Ferrell at 13-13. BU is now also on a winning streak of four for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
Andressa Parise started the Bears off on the right foot, recording two blocks to put BU up 2-0 early on. Iowa State unsuccessfully challenged the play resulting in 4-3 in Baylor’s favor. The Bears would score two points at a time before the Cyclones answered with a point of their own. Yossiana Pressley delivered a service ace at 9-7, with ISU’s Candelaria Herrera hitting one of her own to tie it at 9-9. Avery Skinner would score her second kill of the night to put the bears up 11-10, then went on a roll, scoring two more in the next five plays. The Bears moved to 15-13 with a service error from the Cyclones to go into a media timeout. A service ace from Iowa State tied it at 17-all. Then kills from Lauren Harrison, Pressley and Hannah Sedwick pushed the Bears to 18-17. At 19-17, Iowa State called timeout. Two more Baylor kills just after would make them call for a pause again. BU pushed past, with Skinner recording the final blow at 25-19 to end the set.

SET TWO
The Bears made quick work in set two to put themselves further ahead in the match. An Iowa State service error and a Parise kill put them up early, then Skinner made it 3-1. Iowa State went on a run, scoring three in a row after a Baylor service error to lead 7-4. Harrison put a stop to it with a kill off a Sedwick ace. The Cyclones called timeout after a Skinner kill put the Bears up 11-10. Out of the timeout, Sedwick and Preslie Anderson had a big block off Annie Hatch. Parise had another kill to make it 14-11, then Pressley made it 16-13. ISU called another timeout at 17-13, and came back in it with a kill. Sedwick made it 22-15 with a kill and then Harrison pushed it further to 23-16. An attack error from a Cyclone ended the set at 25-17.

SET THREE
The third set saw Baylor continue their power and prowess. Lauren Harrison and Yossiana Pressley started it off with two kills to make it 3-1. Back to back service errors made it 4-3. Preslie Anderson recorded a kill, then Harrison, the score at 6-3. Skinner recorded two kills in a row to make it 11-6, the Cyclones then taking a timeout. Andressa Parise returned with a block out of the timeout. With work from Skinner and Harrison, it became 13-7, then service errors from ISU took it to 15-11. Pressley served up an ace at 17-11, with another Iowa State timeout following. Preslie Anderson had back-to-back kills to make it 20-12, then Lauren Briseño had an ace. Skinner made it 22-14 with a kill, then 23-16 with another. Parise and Elise McGhee ended the set and the match at 25-19 with a big block against Annie Hatch’s attack.
