WACO, Texas – Baylor softball’s Lou Gilbert was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region third team, announced Thursday by the organization.

It marks the first All-Region honor for the third-year sophomore who was previously named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Gilbert led Baylor this season with a .336 average at the plate. Her team-high 50 hits were comprised mostly of extra-base power with a Big 12-leading 14 doubles to go with a pair of triples and five home runs. However, Gilbert brought the speed from the lefty's batter's box with 13 bunt singles.

The Kansas City, Mo., native has started every game of her Baylor career. After playing center field her first year on campus, she moved to third base a season ago before taking over in left field this season. Gilbert’s made a slew of great catches in addition to keeping baserunners honest as she’s able to throw out a runner at any base from left field.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

The 2021 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 2.

Baylor faces South Alabama on Friday, May 21, at 3:30 p.m. (CT) in the NCAA Gainesville Regional, hosted at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium by No. 4 seed Florida.
