WACO, Texas – Baylor softball set a program record as BU earned 13 selections to the 91-member 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Softball teams, announced Thursday by the conference office.

That total surpassed the previous program best of 11 set in 1998 and matched last year. It also marked the sixth time that BU has had double-digit honorees. Baylor has placed at least six selections to the conference's academic honors for 14-straight seasons and has had five or more for the 18th consecutive year.

Alyssa Avalos, Josie Bower, Nicky Dawson, Taylor Ellis, Lou Gilbert, Sidney Holman-Mansell, Emily Hott, Maddison Kettler, Ashley Marchand, Goose McGlaun, Campbell Selman and Hannah Thompson were named to the first team, while Ana Watson picked up second-team recognition.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
