IRVING, Texas – Baylor senior midfielder Ally Henderson was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This marks the first weekly honor of Henderson’s career and the 48th weekly award for BU.



The Bears are tied for third in the league with six weekly accolades – junior defender Kayley Ables was named Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks to open the season before senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt was named Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 6. Freshmen forwards Mackenzie Anthony and Olivia Mack received Freshman of the Week honors on Oct. 13 and Nov. 10, respectively.



Henderson, a defensive midfielder, scored a pair of goals on Saturday against Louisiana, marking her first goals since her freshman season. Henderson also steadied a Baylor backline that recorded its seventh shutout of the season and held Louisiana to only three shot attempts and two corner kicks all game.

Baylor has now tied a program record with six Big 12 weekly awards in one season for the second time in program history. The Bears also had six in 2018.



Henderson joins West Virginia’s Alina Stahl (Offensive), Texas’ Savannah Madden (Goalkeeper) and Oklahoma State’s Amber Lockwood (Freshman) as this week’s award winners.
