THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Goals abounded on Saturday afternoon as the Baylor soccer team went off in a 5-0 victory over Louisiana at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Taylor Moon finished with a hat trick, the first for Baylor since Elizabeth Kooiman’s against West Virginia on Oct. 3, 2019, and 19th overall in program history.

Moon got the goal party started for the Bears as she found the back of the net in the 39th minute. Maddie Algya found Moon sprinting down the left side of the field and sent a pass out in front of her. In a full sprint, Moon collected the ball, took a couple steps and fired a shot that found the back right corner of the net.

Less than five minutes later, Baylor doubled its lead off its fourth corner kick of the afternoon. Chloe Japic sent a ball in that Mackenzie Anthony headed toward the right post. Ally Henderson was there to boot it in, marking her first goal since her freshman season.

Henderson wasn’t done as she scored her second goal of the day five minutes into the second half as she fired a rocket from the top of the 18 that found the upper right corner of the net.

Forty-eight seconds after Henderson’s second goal, Moon decided she wanted another goal as well. Fouled inside the box, Moon took a penalty kick that the Louisiana keeper initially saved, but Moon gathered the rebound and scored from point-blank range.

Moon scored her third goal of the afternoon off another set piece. Japic, who picked up her second assist of the day, sent in a ball at the perfect height for Moon who ran her route and took flight at the exact time she needed to head the ball into the net for the hat trick.

Baylor set a season-high with five goals on the day as BU previously scored four against Kansas State on Oct. 22. It marked the most goals scored in a game by the Bears since they finished with six against Nebraska on Sept. 2, 2018.

While the offense went off, things stayed quiet for Jennifer Wandt in goal as she finished with two saves, one of which was a diving stop in the opening minutes of the first half. After that initial attack, the Baylor backline kept things under control.

Saturday marked the seventh shutout of the season for Wandt and the 32nd of her career. She’s now tied for fourth in Big 12 history for career shutouts alongside Melanie Wilson (Texas A&M, 1996-99).
