STORYLINES

NOT THROWING AWAY OUR SHOT

  * For the fourth time this season, No. 6 Baylor and No. 2 Texas will square off on the volleyball court.
  * This is the first meeting between the Bears and Longhorns this seson in Waco.
  * Last time out, UT defeated BU in four sets in Austin on March 3. Baylor fell behind two sets to none, battled back to win the third, but ultimately fell short of sending the match to a decisive fifth frame.
  * Both spring matches between Baylor and Texas will count as non-conference competitions, as Texas wrapped up the Big 12 regular season title with an undefeated fall slate.

AGAINST THE LONGHORNS

  * Baylor's only three wins all-time over Texas have come in Waco, including 2019's thrilling five-setter at the Ferrell Center.
  * UT leads the all-time series 87-3 and has won each of the last three meetings.
  * Under sixth-year head coach Ryan McGuyre<https://baylorbears.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1563>, the Bears are just 1-12 against the Longhorns.
  * In the first 2020 meeting on Nov. 5, Baylor jumped out to a strong 2-0 lead with 25-23 and 26-24 set wins, but couldn't hold on as UT stormed back with 25-23, 25-13 and 15-9 set victories to win the match.
  * The next night, Baylor climbed out of a 2-0 hole to tie the match at 2-2, but ultimately fell in the fifth set 22-25, 24-26, 29-27, 25-14, 6-15.
  * On March 3, the Bears and Longhorns tangled in front of a reduced capacity crowd in Austin. Texas took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-17, but BU grabbed the third 25-17 to stay alive. UT finished it off with a 25-20 set victory to collect its third win over the Bears this season.

WHAT'S POPPIN'

  * Baylor enters Friday's contest having won three matches in a row, having gone the distance in each of its last two outings.
  * The Bears snagged two wins in Houston last week, mounting a reverse sweep comeback at U of H before outlasting Rice in a back-and-forth battle.
  * Rice went on to upset the second-ranked Longhorns on Tuesday in five sets, handing UT its first loss of the season.

SHE DOES IT ALL

  * For the first time in her illustrious career, senior OH Yossiana Pressley<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9968> was named the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Week after a 32-dig, five-block road trip.
  * Pressley led the Bears with 3.20 digs per set at Houston and Rice, and two of her five blocks were solo.
  * The reigning national player of the year also produced a team-high 45 kills (4.50 per set) on a .303 efficiency, leading the Bears to two victories.
  * Pressley added to her conference record total with her 19th-career weekly Big 12 award.
  * It's her fourth weekly honor of the season, tying her for most in the league alongside K-State's Aliyah Carter and Oklahoma's Guewe Diouf.
  * Baylor leads the league with 10 weekly accolades in 2020-21, as six different Bears have been honored.

PRESSLEY A SENIOR CLASS AWARD FINALIST

  * Pressley is the third Baylor finalist in program history, joining Katie Staiger (2016) and Shelly Stafford (2019), who both earned second team recognitio.
  * To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
