Baylor Track & Field: Miller Named to The Bowerman Watch List
Senior half-miler is first women’s athlete in school history to be named to elite list

WACO, Texas – Baylor senior Aaliyah Miller is the first women’s athlete in school history to be named to The Bowerman Watch List, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday.

“What an outstanding honor for an outstanding young lady,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “The honor itself is great, but to be the first Baylor female makes it that much more special.”

Miller capped an undefeated 800-meter season with a wire-to-wire win at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2:00.69, breaking the meet record held by Raevyn Rogers, a former winner of The Bowerman. The mark is No. 2 all-time in collegiate indoor history, equal to the collegiate record before this year. Two weeks prior, Miller set the Big 12 meet record with a time of 2:02.98 to claim her second-career Big 12 Indoor Championship in the 800 meters.

“To be named on The Bowerman Watch List is an incredible honor,” Miller said. “Even having my name up there with the nation’s best athletes is insane. It’s a blessing to be able to represent Baylor and be the first female in school history to be listed for this prestigious award.”

The Bowerman is presented annually to the year's most outstanding collegiate male and female track & field athlete (indoor and outdoor track & field combined).

The watch lists represent the consensus, among members of The Bowerman Watch List committees, of who currently is on their radar for consideration to win this year's award. These athletes may or may not have competed yet this year, but based on their past credentials, have the attention of the committee(s).

Following the NCAA outdoor track & field championships, these committees will name semifinalists and make their recommendations to the Bowerman Advisory Board of whom they believe should be finalists for the award. In late June, The Board will choose from these recommendations and three men's finalists and three women's finalists will emerge.

Miller and the Bears are set to compete in the Texas Relays Thursday through Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
