ARLINGTON, Texas – Baylor baseball dropped its midweek contest to UT Arlington, 4-3, in 11 innings on Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavericks (8-11) snapped the Bears (13-7) 10-game win streak over non-conference opponents.

Baylor got on the board in the third inning after junior Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo walked and redshirt sophomore Chase Wehsener used an infield single to make it first and second, one out. Later in the inning, newcomer Jack Pineda came up with the two-out RBI-single to third base to give the Bears the 1-0 advantage.

The Bears doubled their lead in the top-half of the sixth after second-year freshman Cade Currington ripped an RBI-single to right field to score Pineda. In the home-half, UTA got a run back with a solo shot to right, to make it a one-run game again.

The Mavericks led for the first time in the game in the seventh, using a two-out RBI-single that scored two and gave UTA the 3-2 edge. Baylor responded in the eighth with a sacrifice fly from second-year freshman Kyle Nevin to knot the game at 3-3.

The two sides kept each other in check until the bottom of the 11th when the Mavericks had a two-out RBI-single to walk it off at 4-3.

The Bears used six different pitchers, but fifth-year senior Luke Boyd (0-1) was tabbed with the loss and UT Arlington reliever Logan Austin (1-0) earned the victory.

QUOTE FROM COACH ROD
“I think it was a good experience for our guys getting pushed into extra innings like this. We have to understand the value of execution. Sometimes one small mistake can snowball. I’ll tell you what, I think our guys competed well, when you go on the road like this it’s always a decent challenge. UT Arlington has a really good team, they have their whole team back from last year and threw some pretty good arms against us, so we have to regroup and get ready for TCU this weekend.”

WHAT’S NEXT
Baylor will be back on the road this weekend when it travels to Fort Worth to take on No. 12 TCU for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.
