IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis third-year sophomore Adrian Boitan has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

In a three-win week for the Bears, the No. 46-ranked Boitan was impressive in the No. 1 singles slot, collecting two victories. On Wednesday, he faced stiff competition from No. 15 Arizona in the No. 50-ranked Jonas Ziverts, but handled the Wildcat in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Ziverts went on to defeat Texas’ No. 120 Eliot Spizzirri and Oklahoma’s Jake Van Emburgh later in the week, further emphasizing Boitan’s dominant victory.

Boitan stayed sharp later in the week with a 7-6(4), 6-0 win over Louisiana’s Ivailo Keremedchiev on Saturday. Following the first-set tiebreaker, the Constanta, Romania, native kicked it into gear and proved why he’s one of the best players in the Big 12 with a masterful shutout in the second set.

Boitan has spent the most time at the top singles position for the Bears this season, tallying an 8-4 overall record with a 7-3 mark in the No. 1 spot. He has won three of his last four matches and sits second on the team with four wins against ranked opponents.

This is Boitan’s first-career weekly Big 12 award and Baylor’s second of the season (Charlie Broom, Feb. 16). The accolade marks BU’s 50th of all-time.

Baylor returns to the court on Sunday, March 28 for a road match at SMU set for 1 p.m. CT at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas.
