WACO, Texas – Baylor will look to win its 11th-straight non-conference game when it takes on UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas. It will be the first game away from home for the Bears since the 2021 Round Rock Classic back on Feb. 26-28.

Due primarily to COVID-related space constraints, general-public spectators are not permitted at home UTA baseball games.

PITCHING MATCHUP

STORY LINES
• Fifth-year senior Andy Thomas finished last week hitting 11-for-21 (.524) and a .905 slugging percentage, including two home runs, two doubles, seven runs scored and eight RBI in the five games. On the week he also finished second in the Big 12 in total bases (19). In his first Big 12 series in 2021, he went 8-for-15 (.615) with five runs and three RBI against No. 10 Texas. On the season, Thomas is hitting .370 (9th Big 12), with 24 RBI (3rd in Big 12) and 23 runs scored (5th in Big 12).

• The Bears have won 10-straight non-conference games as Baylor is outscoring its opponents 96-22. Over the last 10 non-conference games, Baylor is averaging 9.6 runs per game, while hitting .361 as a team (.529 slugging percentage), led by Jack Pineda who is hitting .441 during the span.

• After hitting .406 last season in 16 games, Jared McKenzie has a .384 average in 2021. McKenzie is 6th in the Big 12 in batting average, T-3rd with six home runs, after not hitting any in 2020. He also ranks 2nd in the conference in hits (33) and 6th nationally, in addition, he is 1st in the nation in runs scored (31) and 5th in the country in total bases (59).

• JUCO transfer Jack Pineda has been a huge piece in Baylor’s success through the first 19 contests. Pineda is hitting .384 which is tied for the team-best with McKenzie and 6th in the Big 12. His 28 hits are T-6th in the Big 12 and 28th nationally, while his six doubles on the season also leads the team.

• The Bears are averaging a league-best .332 batting average (3rd in the nation) and third in on-base percentage, .422 (16th nationally). Eight of Baylor’s top 10 hitters are hitting .300 or better with Jared McKenzie (.384) and Jack Pineda (.384) leading the way. On the season, BU has had double-digit hits in 15-of-19 games.
