Baylor Women’s Golf in Seventh at MountainView Collegiate
Four Bears shoot par or better, all among top-20 individually

THE RUNDOWN
TUCSON, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf is in seventh place after shooting 2-under-par 286 in Friday’s first round of the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve at Saddlebrook.



The No. 9-ranked Bears (-2) are in front of No. 50 Kansas State (+2), San Jose State (+7), No. 45 Tulsa (+11), Fresno State (+12), Southern Miss (+15), Tulane (+18) and Florida International (+21). Baylor trails only No. 31 Texas (-16), No. 20 Houston (-10), No. 36 Iowa State (-10), No. 30 North Texas (-3) and UNLV (-3).



All four of Baylor’s counting scores were at par or better, and four Bears are among the top-20 individually. Gurleen Kaur posted the Bears’ best round of the day, making four birdies and 13 pars on her way to a 2-under 70 to tie for 14th place. Elodie Chapelet, Hannah Karg and Rosie Belsham all shot even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 20th place, while Britta Snyder is tied for 43rd place at 3-over 75.



Chapelet was 1-over through seven holes, then made a birdie on No. 8 and finished with 10 consecutive pars. Belsham started her round with 15 consecutive pars before making a birdie on No. 16 and a bogey on No. 18 to finish at even-par. Karg took the turn at 3-under after birdies on Nos. 3, 5 and 7, and she finished the day at even-par. Snyder tied for the team lead with four birdies.

STAT OF THE DAY
53 – Baylor led the 14-team field with 53 pars in Friday’s first round. Rosie Belsham’s 15 pars were most in the 70-player field, while Gurleen Kaur tied for third with 12 pars, Chapelet had 10 pars, Karg made nine pars and Snyder sank seven pars.

Baylor will be the first team to tee off for Saturday’s second round, teeing off from No. 1 at 10 a.m. CDT. Teams are playing together in fivesomes for the MountainView Collegiate.
