STORY LINES
• Baylor returns home for the first time in more than two weeks to host SFA in a midweek contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Bears are 6-2 at Getterman Stadium this season.
• BU is coming off a 5-1 showing in the state of Arizona over the past week. After opening the trip with a hard-fought 7-4 loss at No. 9 Arizona State, the Lady Bears swept the competition at GCU's Lopes Up Classic, outscoring their opponents by a total of 35-6 and outhitting them, 49-22. Baylor closed out the trip with a big-time 7-2 upset over the top-10 Sun Devils.
• Baylor is now 3-2 against ranked opponents this season. After opening the year with a loss to No. 25 Arkansas, the Lady Bears have won back-to-back games against ranked foes No. 25 Mississippi State (10-6) and No. 13 Louisiana (8-1). Over the weekend, Baylor split at No. 9 Arizona State. BU has played a ranked opponent each week to start the season.
• For a team among the nation's leaders in triples (9), Baylor more than tripled its home run production over the weekend. BU flew to Arizona with only three home runs on the season and came home with seven more. Zadie LaValley<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10401> hit her first career bomb to spark a seventh inning two-out rally at Arizona State on Thursday. Goose McGlaun<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10389> hit a walkoff solo shot against Northern Illinois on Friday before LaValley was at it again against GCU. Ana Watson<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10396> also went yard against the Lopes on Friday. Saturday was a home run derby for Baylor as Lou Gilbert<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10383> and Aliyah Binford<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10397> each hit dingers before Hannah Smith<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10393> hit her first career home run.
• Called on in relief in the bottom of the second inning with the bases loaded and one out on the road against one of the most prolific offenses in the country, Binford went to work against ninth-ranked Arizona State on Sunday. She induced back-to-back groundouts to get out of the inning unscathed before finishing her outing shutting out the Sun Devils off four hits with four strikeouts through 5.2 innings of work. Against a team that had recorded a home run in every game this season, Binford and the BU defense put an end to that streak.
• Nicky Dawson<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10380> is Baylor's all-time leader in career triples with 12 after ripping one to left center field against Louisiana Tech on March 7. The fifth-year senior outfielder now has five triples this season, a mark that ties her for first nationally. Dawson is now tied for second in program history for triples in a season alongside Kyla Walker<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9655> (2017), Carrie Leerberg (2004) and Kelly Osburn (2005). Harmony Schwethelm had six triples in 2005.
• After 20 seasons as an assistant coach for the Lady Bears, Mark Lumley retired in October before he passed away in December after his fourth bout with cancer. The Baylor players and coaching staff will all be wearing blue ribbons in his honor. This season is for Lum.
