AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor football senior Jalen Pitre has been named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Second Team, as announced Monday by the organization.

Pitre, a graduate student from Stafford, Texas, currently holds a 3.61 cumulative GPA while working towards a master’s degree in educational psychology. He previously graduated from Baylor in August 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in business.

A redshirt junior in 2020, Pitre started all nine games for the Bears as a first-team All-Big 12 safety. He led the team in total tackles with 60 and tackles-for-loss with 13, while ranking third in the conference with 1.44 tackles-for-loss per game. Pitre also ranked third on the team with two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns.

Pitre becomes Baylor’s 24th Academic All-American all-time and first since Spencer Drango was honored in 2015.

Student-athletes are recognized by CoSIDA members for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. To be considered, one must accumulate a cumulative GPA between 3.30-4.00 with at least a sophomore athletic standing, while being a starter or key reserve for their respective team.
