AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor volleyball’s Avery Skinner caps off a successful academic and athletic career by being named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American for the second time in her career, the organization announced Wednesday.

Skinner becomes the first BU volleyball player to be named to the First Team, and just the second to be named Academic All-America in program history. The first was Kia Young, who was named to the Third Team in 1999.

The Katy, Texas, native currently holds a 4.0 GPA in her speech and language pathology graduate program at Baylor after graduating with two degrees from Kentucky in 2020. She earned degrees in communication studies and disorders as well as early childhood education as a Wildcat.

She was previously named first-team Academic All-America in 2020, finishing her undergraduate programs with a 3.91 GPA.

Skinner is one of nine repeat selections on this year’s teams. She is also one of eight of the 21 members to boast a 4.0 GPA in their graduate or undergraduate work.

The senior outside hitter plans to continue her volleyball career, playing professionally while or after finishing her master’s at Baylor. She wants to join the workforce in the speech language pathology field.
