THE RUNDOWN
AMES, Iowa – Baylor softball dropped a back-and-forth contest to Iowa State on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-4 at Cyclone Sports Complex.

The Lady Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Emily Hott and Goose McGlaun hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats. That marked the first time Baylor has blasted back-to-back bombs since doing so at Houston on March 10, 2020.

Iowa State came back to tie things up in the bottom of the frame, but Baylor answered in the top of the fifth when Lou Gilbert hit a solo shot over the right field wall to give the Lady Bears back the lead.

A two-spot in the bottom of the fifth gave the Cyclones the lead, but Baylor tied the score back up an inning later.

Taylor Ellis led off with a single up the middle but was thrown out at second when Josie Bower reached on a fielder’s choice to second. Zadie LaValley brought Bower home with a double to the gap in center field.

The game remained tied heading into the bottom of the seventh before Iowa State walked it off.

TOP QUOTES
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore on the game…
“Again, the top of the order was strong for us, but we weren’t consistently effective throughout the lineup. As we know, (Iowa State) can score, so we have to match them. We need to really play well tomorrow as this series is very important.”

UP NEXT
Baylor goes for the series win in Ames as the Lady Bears take on Iowa State at noon on Sunday in the series finale.
