WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf begins the Big 12 Match Play Championship Friday morning at Golf Club at Houston Oaks. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday, with most teams playing five matches over three days.



The Bears earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament by placing tied for fourth at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational. BU tied TCU and Kansas for fourth place, and the tiebreaker to determine seeds was the better final-round score, leaving TCU at No. 4, Baylor at No. 5 and Kansas at No. 6.



As the No. 5 seed, Baylor is in a pool with No. 1 seed Oklahoma, No. 4 TCU, No. 8 West Virginia and No. 9 Iowa State. The opposite pool consists of No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 6 Kansas and No. 7 Oklahoma State. Kansas State, which would’ve been the No. 7 seed, withdrew from the tournament, allowing Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Iowa State to each move up one seed line.



BU begins match play at 8 a.m. CT Friday against No. 4 seed TCU. The Bears have the afternoon off while the four other teams in their pool compete against each other, then return to action with two matches on Saturday and two more on Sunday.



Baylor faces No. 1 seed Oklahoma at 8 a.m. CT Saturday, then turns around for a match against No. 8 seed West Virginia in the afternoon. BU takes on No. 9 seed Iowa State on Sunday morning, then faces a team from the opposite pool in the afternoon.



The first place teams from each pool will play for the championship Sunday afternoon. Second-place pool finishers will compete for third overall, third-place pool play teams will play for fifth and fourth-place pool teams will compete for seventh. The fifth-place finisher in Baylor’s pool will not compete on Sunday afternoon.



Baylor’s lineup for the matchup against TCU consists of Ryan Grider, Colin Kober, Johnny Keefer, Cooper Dossey, Brandon Hoff and Trey Bosco. Travis McInroe is the Bears’ alternate and can be subbed in for any match during the tournament.



Grider will take on TCU’s Mateo Fernandez, Kober faces Jacob Olsen, Keefer takes on Spencer Ball, Dossey matches up with Aymeric Laussot, Hoff faces Chris Berzine and Bosco gets Gustav Frimodt. The matches will start on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes at Houston Oaks.



The Bears won the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Championship in 2019, sweeping their way through five matches against Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas State and Kansas. Dossey and Kober both went a perfect 5-0 in their individual matches that year. BU went 2-3 in last year’s tournament, knocking off Oklahoma State and TCU, and dropping matches against Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma.
