Baylor Men’s Golf Tied for Fifth Place at Olympia Fields

THE RUNDOWN
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Baylor men’s golf is tied for fifth place after shooting 3-over-par 283 in Friday’s first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Bears are five shots back of the lead with two rounds to play.

Baylor (+3) trails Georgia Tech (-2), Pepperdine (E), Texas (+1) and Florida State (+2). The Bears are tied with California (+3) and Texas A&M (+3) and ahead of Florida (+5), North Carolina (+6), Illinois (+7), Northwestern (+11), UNLV (+12), Alabama (+14), Oklahoma State (+15) and Indiana (+18).

Cooper Dossey led the Bears, posting a clean round of 2-under 68 with two birdies and 16 pars. He’s tied for second place and one shot back of the lead held by Texas’ Pierceson Coody (-3). Colin Kober is tied for 13th place after shooting even-par 70, while Travis McInroe bounced back from a 4-over front-9 to shoot 32 on the back-9 and finish the day tied for 21st place at 1-over 71. Mark Reppe carded 4-over 74 to tie for 56th place, and freshman Johnny Keefer is tied for 73rd place at 7-over 77.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor is tied for fourth in the 15-team field in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.05, tied for third in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.80 and 10th in par-4 scoring at 11-over 4.18.
  *   The Bears are tied for fourth with 60 pars and tied for seventh with 11 birdies.
  *   Cooper Dossey and Colin Kober are tied for third in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.50.
  *   Travis McInroe is tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.75.
  *   Dossey is tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at 1-under 3.92.
  *   Dossey leads the tournament with 16 pars across 18 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
32 – Travis McInroe shot 32 on the back-9 to finish at 1-over 71. He carded four bogeys and eight pars to sit at 4-over through 12 holes, then finished with three birdies and three pars over his final six holes.

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor is the first team off the first tee for Saturday’s second round in pairings with players from Florida and North Carolina.
