IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s golf senior Cooper Dossey has been selected as September’s Big 12 Men’s Golfer of the Month, the conference office announced Wednesday. This is his second honor of the month after previously being honored as the national Ben Hogan Award Golfer of the Month.

Dossey was recognized with the conference’s monthly award for the second time in his BU career, more than two and a half years after becoming the first freshman in program history to win the award when he was named Golfer of the Month in February 2017.

An Austin, Texas native, Dossey is the fifth BU player to pick up multiple conference monthly honors, joining Jeremy Alcorn, Ryan Baca, Joakim Mikkelsen and Kyle Jones. He’s the only player to win Big 12 Golfer of the Month in non-consecutive seasons.

Seven different Baylor golfers have been honored as Big 12 Golfer of the Month a total of 13 times. Six of those 13 honors have been during the six-year tenure of head coach Mike McGraw, nearly doubling the seven honors earned by Baylor players during the Big 12’s first 18 seasons.

Dossey led the Bears to two consecutive tournament titles and recorded top-10 individual finishes in all three events the Bears played in September. He recorded seven of nine rounds at par or better and posted a 69.44 stroke average.

Dossey opened the 2019-20 season by shooting 2-under 211 to finish in fifth place as the Bears claimed the Gopher Invitational title. He followed that performance by winning his third career medalist honor with a 4-under 206 to lead the Bears to the Fighting Illini Invitational title. He also led the team with a tie for 10th place at 5-under 208 in the Nike Collegiate Invitational.

Dossey has made 31 birdies across 162 total holes played, nearly doubling his 18 total holes above par. He’s played par-3 holes at 6-under 2.85, par-4 holes at 5-over 4.05 and par-5 holes at 10-under 4.63. He currently ranks second in program history with a 71.72 career stroke average, trailing only Jimmy Walker’s 71.55. He’s also 11th with 12 career top-10 finishes and tied for 12th with 6 career top-5 finishes.

Baylor returns to action this weekend at the second-annual Big 12 Match Play Championship, while runs Friday-Sunday at Golf Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas. The Bears look to defend the title they won by going 5-0 at the inaugural event last season. Matchups are to be determined, but all three days are scheduled for 8 a.m. CT shotgun starts.
