THE RUNDOWN
OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2-seeded Bears dropped game two of the 2019 Big 12 Championship to the No. 3-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday evening at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Bears (34-16) were kept off-balance all day by Cowboy (34-17) starter Elliott Jensen, who had a no-hitter going through the first four frames until Davis Wendzel singled to lead off the fifth inning. Overall, the potent Baylor offense was held to just three hits on the day as they were shut out for just the second time this year.

On the mound, Baylor pitchers Jimmy Winston, Daniel Caruso and Tyler Thomas combined for 15 total strikeouts, the 20th double-digit strikeout total on the year and the first since April 26.

Starter Winston struck out a career-best seven batters, but allowed two two-run homers that were the difference on the day. Overall, he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Caruso followed and struck out three in 1.2 innings, while Thomas struck out five-of-seven batters faced in 2.0 innings of work.

Winston took the loss to fall to 5-2 on the year, while Elliott earned the win for OSU, improving to 9-3 on the year. Peyton Battlefield earned the three-inning save, his second of the year.

The Bears will now face TCU in an elimination game on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. CT.


NOTES
*Baylor is 49-48 all-time at conference championships, 37-38 in the Big 12. BU owns a 33-32 mark in Oklahoma City.

*Baylor is now 2-6 against OSU in the Big 12 Tournament.
*Baylor and Oklahoma are the only two teams to qualify for all 23 Big 12 Championships.
*Jimmy Winston set a new career-best mark of seven strikeouts.
*Richard Cunningham extended his hit streak to 22 games, a career high.

*Nick Loftin<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=49> has a nine-game hit streak.

*Wendzel broke up the Pokes’ no-hit bid in the fifth inning.

*Wendzel, Cunningham and Loftin each had one hit on the day.

*Baylor pitchers Winston, Caruso and Thomas combined for 15 strikeouts, the first double-digit strikeout game for the Bears since April 26 at TCU. Overall, the Bears have 20 double-digit strikeout performances on the year.

*Daniel Caruso made is 23rd appearance on the year.

*Tyler Thomas made his 13th appearance of the year.

STAT OF THE DAY
15– Baylor pitchers struck out 15 batters on the day, tied for second-most in a game this season. The 15-strikeout performance is the first double-digit strikeout performance since April 26 at TCU when they had 13.
