IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s golf set a school record with a conference-best eight Academic All-Big 12 selections, the league office announced Thursday.

The Bears set a record with seven total Academic All-Big 12 honorees, including six on the first team in 2017, and BU established a new school record with seven first-team selections last season. This year marks the first time the Bears have had eight total Academic All-Big 12 honorees, and the seven first-team selections tie last year’s record for most players on the first team.

Players are eligible for Academic All-Big 12 honors after they’ve completed a full year in residence, and for a third consecutive season every eligible Baylor golfer was recognized.

Braden Bailey, Austin Cotton, Cooper Dossey, Ryan Grider, Colin Kober, Travis McInroe and Mark Reppe were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while Garrett May was named to the Second Team.

Bailey and May, the only seniors on this year’s Baylor squad, joined Andreas Gjesteby and Bill Allcorn as the only four-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees in program history.

Bailey joined Gjesteby as the only players in program history to earn Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team honors in their first seasons on campus and follow with three consecutive first-team honors over the remaining three years of their collegiate careers.

May picked up Academic All-Big 12 recognition for the fourth consecutive season. He was named to the rookie team with Bailey in 2016 and followed with second-team honors in 2017, first-team recognition in 2018 and second-team honors this season.

Juniors Dossey and Kober earned Academic All-Big 12 recognition for their third consecutive seasons, and Kober was one of nine Big 12 players recognized with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Cotton and McInroe were recognized on the first team for their second-straight seasons, while Grider and Reppe were first-team selections after being on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team as freshmen last season.

Baylor has now had 76 Academic All-Big 12 honorees in the conference’s 23-year history. At least five Bears have earned league academic honors in all five seasons under head coach Mike McGraw. BU players have combined to earn 36 Academic All-Big 12 honors during the five-year McGraw era after picking up 40 such honors in the league’s first 18 seasons.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the Academic All-Big 12 men's golf team consisted of 37 first-team honorees and nine second-team selections. First team members have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second team honorees hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, and they must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence, and seniors who have participated for at least two years are exempt from the participation requirements.

Baylor wraps up the regular season at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate, which runs Friday and Saturday at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz. Follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for updates throughout the season.
