THE RUNDOWN
LANTANA, Texas – Baylor women’s golf is in third place after shooting 13-under-par 563 across two rounds on Monday at the Bruzzy Challenge. The Bears shot 8-under 280 in the first round and 3-under 285 in the second round at Lantana Golf Club.



No. 35 Baylor (-13) trails only No. 41 Ole Miss (-18) and No. 43 Texas Tech (-17). The Bears lead No. 20 Miami (-7), No. 28 Houston (-7), BYU (-6), Kansas State (-2), Maryland (E), No. 19 TCU (+2), No. 2 Texas (+4), Texas A&M (+10), SMU (+10), Iowa (+17), Missouri (+21) and North Texas (+21).



Gurleen Kaur is tied for second place in the 84-player field after shooting 5-under 67 and 3-under 69 to card 8-under 136. Erica Chiang shot 2-under 70 and even-par 72 to tie for 14th place at 2-under 142 and Emma Bradley carded 1-under 71 and even-par 72 to tie for 21st place at 1-under 143.



Maria Vesga is tied for 35th place at 1-over 145, Jordan Shackelford is tied for 28th place at even-par 144 and Amelia McKee is tied for 42nd at 2-over 146. Shackelford, who is competing as an individual, shot 1-over 73 and 1-under 71. Vesga counted a second-round 2-under 70 toward the team score, while McKee’s even-par 72 first round counted for Baylor.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor’s six players in the tournament combined to card nine of 12 rounds at par or better, including eight of 10 rounds at par or better from players in the BU lineup.
  *   Baylor is tied for second in the 15-team field in par-4 scoring at 2-under 3.98, third in par-5 scoring at 10-under 4.75 and sixth in par-3 scoring at 4-over 3.10.
  *   Baylor’s 40 birdies tied for second-most in the field.
  *   Kaur leads the 84-player field in par-4 scoring at 8-under 3.60, while Bradley is tied for eighth at 2-under 3.90.
  *   Chiang ranks third in the field in par-5 scoring at 6-under 4.25.
  *   Vesga and Shackelford are tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.88.
  *   Chiang’s 12 birdies across 36 holes are tied for second-most in the field, while Kaur is tied for sixth with nine birdies.
  *   Bradley and Kaur are tied for eighth in the tournament with 26 pars across 36 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
29 – Kaur was bogey-free through her first 29 holes on Monday. She carded five birdies and 13 pars in the first round, then started the second round with two birdies and nine pars before making her first bogey on her 30th hole of the day. She immediately got back to 7-under by making birdie on her next hole, then followed with four consecutive pars before capping the day with a birdie on her final hole.

Baylor is paired with Ole Miss and Texas Tech for Tuesday’s final round, which is an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Kaur and Chiang will tee off from No. 1, Bradley will start on No. 2, Vesga will begin on No. 3, McKee will tee off on No. 4 and Shackelford will start on No. 17.
