Baylor Men’s Golf Tied for Third at Trinity Forest Invite
Bears are six shots back of lead entering final round

THE RUNDOWN
DALLAS – Baylor men’s golf shot 3-under-par 281 in Monday’s first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational and sits tied for third place at 14-under-par 554 through two rounds. The Bears are six shots back of the lead heading to Tuesday’s final round.

BU (-14), trails only SMU (-20) and College of Charleston (-16). The Bears are tied with North Texas (-14) and lead Arkansas-Little Rock (-12), Florida (-8), New Mexico (-6), Rice (+2), UTSA (+3), Oral Roberts (+7), Sam Houston State (+8), Ball State (+11) and Abilene Christian (+17).

All five members of the Baylor lineup are among the top-20 individually in the 84-player field. Ryan Grider, Cooper Dossey and Colin Kober are among five players tied for 10th place at 3-under 139. Grider shot 1-under 70 on Monday for his second-consecutive round below par, while Dossey and Kober both shot 1-over 72. Braden Bailey is tied for 15th place at 2-under 140 after making 15 pars on his way to a second-straight round of 1-under 70 on Monday. Garrett May carded BU’s best score of the day at 2-under 69 to climb into a tie           for 19th place at 1-under 141.

The remaining four members of the Baylor roster are competing as individuals. Austin Cotton leads the BU individuals and is tied for 30th place at 1-over 143 after shooting 1-under 70, which was two strokes better than the previous low round of his Baylor career. Brandon Hoff and Mark Reppe both shot 3-over 74 on Monday, with Hoff moving into a tie for 52nd place at 4-over 146 and Reppe into a tie for 73rd place at 8-over 150. Travis McInroe is tied for 69th place at 7-over 149 after carding 8-over 79 on Monday.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor is second in the 13-team field in par-4 scoring at 2-under 3.98, fourth in par-5 scoring at 13-under 4.57 and seventh in par-3 scoring at 3-over 3.08.
  *   BU is tied for the tournament lead with three eagles, with Braden Bailey, Cooper Dossey and Ryan Grider contributing one eagle apiece.
  *   BU is tied for third and two back of the lead with 116 pars across two rounds.
  *   The Bears have made 34 birdies, sixth-most in the tournament.
  *   Colin Kober is tied for third in the 84-player field in par-4 scoring at 4-under 3.82, while Garrett May is tied for eighth at 2-under 3.91 and Brandon Hoff and Grider are tied for 13th at even-par 4.00.
  *   Bailey is tied for third in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.17, while Grider and Dossey are tied for seventh at 4-under 4.33.
  *   Dossey is tied for ninth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.88.
  *   Mark Reppe is tied for the tournament lead with 28 pars across 36 holes, and Austin Cotton is tied for fifth with 26 pars.
  *   Kober leads the team and is tied for seventh with 10 birdies over two rounds.

STAT OF THE DAY
5-under – The Bears got off to a great start by playing the par-5 first hole at 5-under-par. Cooper Dossey made an eagle, Garrett May, Ryan Grider and Braden Bailey added birdies, and Colin Kober made a par. The Bears’ four individuals combined to play the hole at 1-under, with a birdie from Mark Reppe and pars from Austin Cotton, Travis McInroe and Brandon Hoff.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bears are in the final group off the first tee for Tuesday’s final round, paired with golfers from SMU and College of Charleston. May has the first tee time at 9:17 a.m., and he’ll be followed by Bailey at 9:26 a.m., Kober at 9:35 a.m., Dossey at 9:44 a.m. and Grider at 9:53 a.m. Baylor’s four individuals are split, with Hoff going off from the first tee at 8:05 a.m., followed by Cotton at 8:14 a.m. McInroe will tee off on No. 10 at 9:30 a.m., followed by Reppe at 9:39 a.m. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
