WACO, Texas – Athlon Sports College Basketball Preview and Lindy’s Sports College Basketball placed the Baylor women’s basketball at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively in its preseason rankings with each publication placing Kalani Brown on its Preseason All-America First-Team and Athlon naming Lauren Cox a second-team selection.

Athlon and Lindy’s became the second and third publication to rank Baylor in the top five after Street & Smith’s Basketball had the Lady Bears checking in at No. 4. The senior, Brown, had earned first-team honors from Street & Smith’s last week picked up her second and third first-team selections of the preseason from Athlon and Lindy’s. Cox was a second-team selection by Street & Smith’s with Athlon handing the junior post her second, second-team honor.

Both publications are available at local bookstores, and Athlon reporter Doug Herakovich had this to say about Baylor’s tandem in the post:

“The baseline duo of Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox will give the Bears the top interior tandem in the country. The 6’7” Brown delivered 20.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game last year as a junior on her way to All-America honors. Cox, a 6’4” junior forward, averaged 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds.”

Athlon ranked Notre Dame at No. 1, UConn at No. 2 and Oregon at No. 4. Big 12 foe, Texas, checked in at No. 13 and Texas A&M was the only other Texas team represented at No. 25.

Lindy’s ranked Notre Dame at the top with Oregon at No. 2, UConn at No. 3 and Louisville checked in at No. 4. Texas ranked No. 11 and Texas A&M No. 24.

Baylor's season begins Nov. 6 against Nicholls State at home with a 6 p.m. tip.
