WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball redshirt junior shortstop Travis Sanders has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, as announced Wednesday by the College Baseball Foundation.

The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It’s named after former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 and died of leukemia at the age of 27.

The top 100 shortstops in the country were included on Wednesday’s watch list, recognized for their tremendous offensive numbers and solid defensive statistics.

Through the first 12 games of the 2026 season, Sanders is off to a blistering start, batting .467 (21-for-45) with an eye-popping .724 BABIP (batting average on balls in play). On Tuesday night at Tarleton State, he tied Davis Wendzel (2019) as the fastest Bears to reach 20 hits in a season since 2013, as the duo both collected their 20th knocks in their 43rd at-bats of the year.

The Copperas Cove, Texas, native has also made the move from second base to the cornerstone of the defense and has adjusted seamlessly, fielding at a .981 clip with just one error in 53 chances. Sanders has helped the Bears turn a Big 12-leading 14 double plays this season, which also ranks sixth nationally.

In addition to his Big 12-best 21 hits, Sanders leads the Bears with 13 runs scored, five doubles, six stolen bases and a .586 on-base percentage. He ranks second on the team with a .622 slugging percentage and has added a triple with six RBIs so far this year.

Sanders is one of just five Big 12 players named to the watch list, joining Arizona State’s PJ Moutzouridis, Kansas State’s Dee Kennedy, Texas Tech’s Linkin Garcia and West Virginia’s Matt Ineich.
