ORLANDO – No. 12 Baylor women’s basketball had a dominate wire-to-wire game over UCF at Addition Financial Arena, defeating the Knights by 30 on Sunday afternoon, 93-63
The Bears were led by five in double-figure scoring as Taliah Scott had a game-high 26, Kayla Nelms scored 12, Bella Fontleroy tabbed 11 and Jana Van Gytenbeek and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs each sunk 10.
Baylor created early separation with a 10-0 run in the first quarter and took a 27-13 lead into the break between periods. Scott scored 12 points in the opening frame while Fontleroy added seven as the Bears went 12-of-19 from the field.
Yuting Deng opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer, and Nelms followed with a putback less than a minute later. Scott then converted a four-point play to push Baylor’s lead to 23 and force a UCF timeout.
Baylor did not commit a turnover until nearly 14 minutes ticked off the game clock while turning 12 first‑half UCF giveaways into 18 points. Scott finished the half with 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting in 15 minutes as the Bears held a 52-23 lead at halftime.
The Bears extended their advantage to as much as 39 in the third quarter. Littlepage-Buggs hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored six points in the period, while Van Gytenbeek added five points while directing the Baylor offense. The Bears shot 8-of-14 in the third and made 4-of-5 attempts from behind the arc.
Nelms scored eight points in the fourth quarter, going 3-of-4 from the field and 2-of-2 at the line while playing in her home state. Baylor maintained a lead of at least 30 for the remainder of the game before closing out road victory, 93-63.
Van Gytenbeek recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and 11 assists. Littlepage-Buggs added eight rebounds and Kyla Abraham pulled down seven off the defensive glass.
The Bears remain on the road, taking on No. 16 Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. The game will be live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
