Baylor Sweeps Away a Twin-Bill at the Campbell/Cartier Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Baylor softball picked up a pair of wins Friday at SDSU Softball Stadium, defeating Oregon State, 5-4, before closing the day with an 11-2 victory over host San Diego State.
The Bears improved to 7–2 on the season behind timely power at the plate and strong pitching performances across both games.
RUNDOWN
Oregon State vs. Baylor
The Bears were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when sophomore pinch runner Jayden King came across to score the lone run of the inning to get Baylor on the board at 3-1.
The Beavers expanded their lead to 4-1 before the Bears offense got back to work, taking the lead in the fifth. The Baylor offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run blast to left off the bat of Leah Cran, which brought the Bears lead to 5-4.
Baylor's defense sealed the win in the top of the 7th as Toven skied for a liner to end the game and get back on the winning track.
Cambree Craiger picked up her first win in a Baylor uniform working 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Baylor at SDSU
The Bears got on the board immediately with a lead-off blast off the bat of Amber Toven.
BU got two more runs in the second off the bat of Marshall and the speed of Brooklyn Carter who came around to score one of her three runs on the day.
San Diego State narrowed Baylor's lead to 3-2 before the Bears stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the fourth inning with another homerun from Marshall.
Baylor kept the Aztecs scoreless before building on their lead in the sixth inning. bringing the score to 7-2 in favor of Baylor.
The Bears manufactured three more runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh, highlighted by a couple of two-run swings from Karynton Dawson and Amber Toven.
Sophomore Peyton Tanner got the win for Baylor, twirling her second-career complete game. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up just two runs on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
GAME NOTES
• The Bears are now 7-2 on the season the 10th time BU has started 7-2 or better under Glenn Moore, and the first since 2023
• The Bears’ 14 hits against on Friday night are its most since slugging 16 at Arizona State on April 19, 2025
• Baylor’s win over Oregon State was just its second in eight tries against the Beavers
• Every Baylor starter reached base safely in the win over San Diego State
• Baylor went 5-for-11 (.455) with runners in scoring position against The Aztecs
• Kaygen Marshall is the first freshman since Aliyah Binford in 2021 to hit two homeruns in the same game
• Senior Brooklyn Carter collected a career-high four hits on the day
• Carter stole three bases in Friday's night-cap, one off her career high
• Leah Cran has now hit safely in seven of Baylor’s nine games this season, upping her hitting streak to a career-best six games
• Amber Toven is the first player since Emily Hott in 2024 to lead off the game with a homerun
• Cran tied her career high with three RBIs against Oregon State
• Peyton Tanner threw her second-career complete game and was the first Baylor to go 7.0 innings in a start since Lillie Walker on April 24, 2025 against BYU
• Averie Waddell collected her fourth hit of the season against Oregon State matching her hit toal from all of last season

Baylor will close down the Campbell/Cartier Classic with two games on Saturday. First up will be a battle with Fordham at 11:00 a.m. CT, followed by the tournament finale against the University of North Dakota at about 1:30 p.m. CT.
