WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor closed out its home schedule in style Thursday night, rallying past Texas Tech for a 3-1 senior-night victory inside the Ferrell Center.

The win bumped the Bears to 16-9 overall and 11-6 in Big 12 play, building on Baylor’s ninth-straight season with double-digit conference wins.

After dropping their first opening set at home all season, 25-22, Baylor responded with renewed energy in the second frame. Tied at 4-4 early, the Bears surged ahead with a decisive 10-3 run fueled by six kills from Bailey Warren. Baylor maintained control the rest of the way, evening the match with a 25-18 win.

With Baylor trying to carry that momentum into the third set, it was Texas Tech who jumped ahead 10-6 before Baylor flipped the script. A dominant 11-2 run propelled the Bears into the lead. Strong defensive play at the net by Victoria Davis and Gabbi Essix, and tenacious backcourt coverage by Morgan Madison, helped Baylor close out the set 25-16 to take a 2-1 match advantage.

Associate Head Coach Joshua Walker saw his team turn the tide in that third set, taking the wind out of the Red Raider sails.

"Our defense really started coming alive in that third set," he said. "We got off to a slow start defensively, but once we got into that third set, things steadied out. Between what we were doing in the front court with Manu being great on the line, so she was able to get some touches, forcing them to start taking swings at our middles a little more. That's how you go on runs in volleyball, it has to come from the service line, putting the ball in, getting the ball out of system and then finishing at the net.”

Fighting to extend the match, the Red Raiders kept the fourth set tight with six ties and three lead changes, but Baylor delivered the final push. A late 4-0 burst put the Bears in control, and fittingly, senior Manuela Bibinbe slammed home the final point to seal a senior-night celebration, 25-22.

The Bears tallied 62 kills, their second-most in a four-set match this season, and dug out 68 Texas Tech attack attempts, their highest dig total in any four-set contest this year. BU also recorded 10 blocks, marking the program’s 13th double-digit blocking outing of the season.

BU was led by its freshmen on senior night, as Ksenia Rakhmanchik once again paced the offense with 16 kills, her sixth-straight match leading the Bears in that category. Warren delivered a standout night with 14 kills on a season-best .500 hitting percentage. Morgan Madison anchored the backcourt with a career-high 31 digs, the second-most in a four-set match in program history. Setter Harley Kreck stuffed the stat sheet with 40 assists, nine digs and seven kills, while Gabbi Essix added five blocks in her final match at the Ferrell Center

The Bears are off this weekend before closing out the regular season on the road at TCU next Wednesday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT from Schollmaier Arena.
