No. 23 Baylor Soccer Matches Up with BYU in Big 12 Tournament Semifinals

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 23 Baylor soccer is set to face BYU at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The match will kick off the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, streaming live on ESPN+.

The No. 5-seeded Bears (12-3-4, 7-3-1 Big 12) enter the semis following an electric upset over fourth-seeded and No. 15-ranked Texas Tech. BU rallied in the second half to force overtime and ultimately advanced on penalty kicks, becoming the first team this season to come from behind and defeat the Red Raiders. The win marks Baylor’s first trip to the Big 12 Tournament semifinals under head coach Michelle Lenard and first since 2018.

BYU (9-6-4, 4-5-2 Big 12), the tournament’s No. 8 seed, advanced to the semifinals in similar fashion, eliminating top-seeded TCU in penalty kicks. The Cougars struck early in regulation before the Horned Frogs rallied to equalize late, but BYU held strong through overtime and prevailed at the spot to secure the win. The Cougars have now reached the Big 12 Tournament semifinals in each season since joining the conference in 2023.

Baylor and BYU are set to meet for the sixth time in program history and the first time in postseason play, with the all-time series knotted at 2-2-1. The teams last met earlier this season in Waco, where the Bears earned a 4-2 victory over the Cougars.

Baylor held its No. 23 spot in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, released through matches played on Nov. 2. The Bears currently own the No. 13 spot in the NCAA RPI rankings, while BYU sits at No. 30 in the same metric.

The winner of Wednesday’s match will advance to the championship game of the 2025 Big 12 Tournament presented by Allstate and face the winner of No. 3-seed and 12th-ranked Colorado and No. 7-seed Kansas on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field in Waco.
