NORMAN, Okla. — Baylor women’s golf continues its postseason journey on Monday morning at the NCAA Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Advancing out of a regional in each of the last four seasons, the Bears are one of just eight teams in the country to make six of the last seven NCAA Championships. Baylor's most experienced postseason player, Sera Hasegawa, will miss the tournament with an injury, but head coach Jay Goble is confident his team has what it takes to make it to a fifth-straight NCAA Championship.
“We’re excited to get to play relatively close to home for a chance to extend our season,” he said. “While it’s definitely not going to be easy, this is not uncharted territory for us. We’ve been to four straight NCAA Championships, including making it out of Vegas last year as a No. 7 seed. Sera not being able to go is unfortunate, but we are confident in the group we are taking. Each of them has played a role in helping us get to this point. Now, it's about taking advantage of a fresh start and trying to make that top five and get back to La Costa.”
Silje Ohma will play at No. 1 this week, leading the team in scoring average this season at 73.17. The junior is making her third appearance in an NCAA regional, with her best finish coming in 2023 when she tied for 26th at the Pullman Regional.
Bridget Boczar will play out of the No. 2 spot, making her second-career NCAA postseason appearance. Finishing tied for 56th at the East Lansing Regional last season with Oakland, Boczar finished second on the team in Par-3 scoring average at 3.12 this season.
Ashleen Kaur takes the No. 3 spot in the lineup this week in Norman. The sophomore was instrumental in Baylor getting out of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional last season, battling 40-mile-per-hour winds to shoot a final-round 69. Her tie for fourth at Spanish Trail was the best finish by a Baylor freshman in a regional since Dylan Kim finished third at the San Antonio Regional in 2015.
BaiMai Seema will make her second and final appearance in a regional at No. 4. Last season in Las Vegas, Seema tied for 20th, which, at the time, was her best finish since 2021 as a member of the lineup.
Malena Castro will get the nod at No. 5. The freshman made her postseason debut a couple of weeks ago, subbing in for the final two rounds at the Big 12 Championship at Houston Oaks.
Castro will lead the Bears off the first tee at 8:55 a.m. CT on Monday.
