CARROLTON, Texas — Baylor men’s golf finished Monday in seventh place after 36 holes at the Maridoe Collegiate at Maridoe Golf Club.

Baylor’s 19-over 597 is three shots behind sixth-place Louisiana-Monroe and 11 shots behind No. 14 Alabama, who is in fourth place. No. 7 Oklahoma holds the 36-hole team lead after an 8-under 568, finishing as the only team under par. No. 3 Arizona State is 14 shots behind the Sooners in second place.

Baylor’s Zach Heffernan enters Tuesday just three shots out of the top-10, while Oklahoma’s Jase Summy holds a one-shot lead over Arizona State’s Michael Mjaaseth in the race for individual medalist.

THE RUNDOWN
First Round
Wrightson shot a 1-over 73 in the first round, his best score since a final-round 68 at the Cabo Collegiate earlier this month. The junior made a birdie on his opening hole of the day at No. 5 but dropped back to even with a bogey at No. 7. Ten-straight pars preceded his first eagle of the year at No. 17 to get to 2-under before playing his next four holes at 4-over. He put a bow on his round with a birdie at No. 4 to get back to 1-over.

Zach Heffernan shot a 3-over 75 in the morning session. Starting at No. 4, Heffernan made a birdie to get off to a good start but made bogeys at Nos. 6, 9 and 11 to fall back over par. The senior battled back to even with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 14 and 15, only to drop three more shots on his final six holes at Nos. 16, 8 and 2.

Jonas Appel also turned in a 3-over 75 in the morning round. The junior was one of three BU players to card a birdie on their opening holes, making a three at No. 5. A bogey at No. 7 was offset by a birdie at No. 10. The California native was rolling in red figures. A triple-bogey at No. 11 dropped him two shots over par ahead of another bogey at No. 14. Appel played his final eight holes at even-par with birdies at Nos. 17 and 1 ahead of bogeys at Nos. 2 and 3.

Jackson Hymer turned in a counting score on Monday morning with a 5-over 77. A round that featured just four pars began with three-straight bogeys at Nos. 7, 8 and 9. His first birdie of the day came at No. 12 but was followed by a bogey at No. 13, a double-bogey at No. 13 and a bogey at No. 14. The freshman got his round back on track with three birdies in his next four holes at Nos. 16, 17 and 1. Hymer played his final five holes at 2-over, thanks to bogeys at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 and a birdie at No. 6.

Davis Ovard shot a 7-over 79 in the opening round on Monday. After playing his first five holes at 4-over, he made a birdie at No. 11. From that point, he played his final 12 holes at 4-over, finishing with a birdie at No. 5.

Individually, Sam Dossey came in under the stroke average in round one with a 2-over 74.

Second Round
Heffernan fired an even-par 72 in the second round to move into a tie for 17th. Opening with a birdie at No. 4 for the second-straight round, Heff added another at No. 7 to reach 2-under. He gave back both shots at No. 10 with a double-bogey followed by another bogey at No. 14 to drop back over par. A birdie at No. 17 pulled him back to level par, where he would finish.

Ovard improved by nine shots from round one to round two with a 2-under 70 on Monday afternoon. He picked up back-to-back birdies to start at Nos. 4 and 5 before surrendering his first shot of the round with a bogey at No. 10. A birdie at No. 12 and an eagle at No. 13 got him to 4-under before a double-bogey at No. 14 dropped him to 2-under through nine. He played his inward half at even par thanks to a bogey at No. 1 and a birdie at No. 2.

Appel followed an opening-round 75 with another in round two to finish Monday tied for 35th. A steady start saw him play his first four holes at even until a double-bogey de-railed him at No. 9. He recovered with a birdie at No. 11 to get back to 1-over before bogeys on the inward half at Nos. 14 and 2 cost him two more shots.

Wrightson played his first nine holes at 10-over par en route to a 9-over 81 in the second round to drop into a tie for 55th.

Hymer shot an 8-over 80 in the second round to tie for 66th. At six-over through his first 10 holes, the freshman made his first birdie of the round at No. 17. He made another at No. 2 around four bogeys at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 to close out the round.

Dossey finished the day with a 4-over 76 and a tie for 34th as an individual.
