WACO, Texas - Baylor men's basketball was well represented on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District team, with VJ Edgecombe and Norchad Omier honored by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.

Both players were named to the Gulf Coast District First Team, joining Houston, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as the others with multiple first-teamers. This is the first time since 2021 that BU had multiple first-team representatives.

Omier got the NABC nod for a fourth time after being named to the District 23 First Team at Arkansas State in 2022. The Bluefields, Nicaragua, native then, was named to the District 2 Second Team in each of the last two seasons with Miami.

In his only season in Waco, the All-Big 12 First Teamer has made his presence felt, setting Baylor’s single-season record with 21 double-doubles and counting. The nation’s active leader in career double-doubles (89) and rebounds (1,675), Omier leads the Bears in points per game (15.9) and rebounds per game (10.9). Omier will finish second all-time in career double-doubles, and with just four more rebounds, he will move into the top 10 all-time in career boards.

Edgecombe’s 465 points this season are the fifth-most by a freshman in program history. He also ranks among the freshmen record holders in points per game (15.0) and assists (103) and set the program standard for steals (66).

In addition to being the 13th player in Big 12 history and the third-straight rookie from Baylor to sweep the preseason and postseason freshman of the year honors, Edgecombe was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team and the All-Big 12 Second Team. Baylor is the only school in Big 12 history to have the preseason and postseason freshman of the year in three consecutive seasons. His 15.0 points per game led the conference, as the Bahamian national team guard averaged 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, which ranked third among Big 12 freshmen.

Baylor’s dynamic duo will lead the Bears back onto the floor on Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 8 Seed Mississippi State at 11:15 a.m. CT on CBS. BU is making its school-record sixth-straight NCAA tournament appearance and is one of just eight schools in the country to appear in nine of the last 10 NCAA Tournaments.
