MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Baylor men's golf settled into fourth after 36 holes of the General Hackler Championship on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

With the course average hovering just under 74, BU’s Davis Ovard played a steady round to finish the day in a tie for sixth. His 4-under 140 is five shots off the pace of Duke's Ethan Evans, the 36-hole leader.

Baylor’s 4-over 292 dropped them one spot as Louisville, while former Baylor assistant coach Ryan Blagg and his Cardinals used the round of the day to move into a tie for second with Duke. Auburn holds a nine-shot advantage over that pair with a 14-under 562.

THE RUNDOWN
Ovard carded 12-straight pars to open his round before breaking into red figures with a birdie at No. 13. He gave a shot back with a bogey at No. 15 but turned in his second-straight round at par or better.

Zach Heffernan dropped nine spots into a tie for 10th with a 2-over 74 in round two. An early birdie at No. 1 staked him to the solo lead. He stayed there after he sandwiched an eagle at No. 4 around bogeys at Nos. 3 and 5. He finished his front nine at 2-under after a birdie at No. 6. His second nine started with a bogey at No. 10 and a double-bogey at No. 12 to fall back over par. He added one more bogey at No. 15 before finishing the round.

Jonas Appel shot a 1-over 73 to move into a tie for 45th. The junior jumped into red figures with a birdie at No. 2 but dropped a pair of shots with a double-bogey at No. 3. Turning at 1-over, Appel played his second nine at even par, with a bogey at No. 11 and a birdie at No. 15.

Jackson Hymer also finished Monday tied for 45th after his 4-over 76. The freshman dropped to 3-over through six but rolled in his first birdie at No. 8 to turn at 2-over. He closed with five-straight pars after two more bogeys at Nos. 11 and 13.

Drew Wrightson bounced back with a six-shot improvement on Monday, shooting a 1-over 73 to jump into a tie for 67th. After an early bogey at No. 2, he bounced back nicely with a pair of birdies at Nos. 6 and 8 to make the turn in red figures. His homeward half included bogeys at Nos. 11, 14 and 18 around a bogey at No. 15.

  *   Baylor’s three eagles through two rounds are tied for the most in the field
