STORYLINES

LEADING OFF

• Baylor Baseball opens up conference play at Kansas for a three-game series as winners of five in a row.

• BU's current five-game winning streak entering the weekend is tied for its second-longest winning streak of the Mitch Thompson<https://baylorbears.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/mitch-thompson/2403> era and is the fourth five-game winning streak or better under Coach Thompson.

• Last weekend's sweep over LMU marked BU's second sweep of the season and the fourth time since 2017 that the Bears have swept two opponents at home within the first four weekends of the year.

• Tuesday night's attendance (2,283) was the largest crowd against a non-conference opponent, and the seventh-largest overall, of the Thompson era.

• Baylor is off to a 13-3 start to begin the season, marking just the fourth time in the last 30 seasons (since 1995) that the team has won at least 13 of its first 16 games to open the year -- 2000 (13-3), 2003 (13-3), 2017 (14-2) and 2025 (13-3).

• Baylor returns 22 players from its 2024 roster, including six position player starters, and welcomes 18 newcomers.

• BU has 16 seniors on its 2025 roster, including six fifth-year players and three sixth-year players.

• Baylor plays a combined 13 games against five NCAA Tournament teams in 2025 and will face 10 30-game winners, including two squads that won 40 or more games last season.

• 46% of the schedule features opponents that finished 2024 with a top-75 RPI.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST KANSAS

• Baylor leads the all-time series over Kansas, 62-28, but is just 1-5 against KU during the Thompson era.

• The Jayhawks won two of three in Waco last season and previously swept the Bears in Lawrence in 2023.

• In its last four trips to Kansas, Baylor is 6-6 against the Jayhawks.

• BU has won six of its last nine series against Kansas, but has not swept the Jayhawks since 2012.

BIG 12 OPENERS BY THE NUMBERS

• Baylor is 3-3 in its last six conference-opening series with a 9-9 overall record across those 18 games.

• BU has not won its first Big 12 road series of the year since 2019, and has been swept in each of its last two such series.

STRONG FIRST MONTH

• Baylor completed its first Opening Weekend sweep since 2019, outscoring Youngstown State 38-11.

• The Bears posted back-to-back shutouts against UTSA and Gonzaga, the team's first consecutive shutouts since April 1-2, 2021.

• BU's bullpen has allowed just 18 earned runs across 76.1 innings of relief, good for a 2.12 ERA.

• The squad's 2.79 team ERA ranks 7th in the country and 2nd in the Big 12 (UCF, 2.35).

• The Bears also have a bevy of other top-20 national pitching marks, including BB/9 (2.54, 5th),WHIP (1.05, 6th), K:BB Ratio (3.58, 10th) and H/9 (6.91, 20th).

• For the fourth week in a row, Baylor is currently receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll. Baylor has not been ranked in a major poll since 2019.

SOUTHPAW STARTERS

• 2025 is just the third season in the Statcrew Era (since 2003) that Baylor has started four different left-handed pitchers at any point in the year.

• A left-handed pitcher has started each of BU's last five games entering the weekend series at Kansas.
