ESSEN, Germany – In game two of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, Baylor men’s basketball, representing as Team USA, toughed it out for an 84-77 win over Team Latvia on Sunday night at Grugahalle facility.
Leading for the entirety of the game, Team USA out-rebounded Team Latvia on the glass with 54 boards and forced 10 turnovers to give them their 2-0 start in pool play. Foul play proved to be trouble for both teams with a final 26-23 foul call, but USA was the team to tough-out a win.
Obi Agbim led for USA with an all-around game of 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Beside Agbim was Cameron Carr who secured 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Carr went 7-for-10 at the line, leading the team in free throws.

THE RUNDOWN
Giving Team USA its first points on the board, JJ White knocked down a three to get the night going in Essen. Agbim caught fire in the first, putting up a quick seven points in the first four minutes of the game. Driving to the paint, Agbim hit double-figures before the first 10 minutes concluded to guide Team USA to a 32-25 lead after the first.
Team USA put up a quick 5-0 run to start out the second quarter but found themselves in foul trouble early with four players, Samson Aletan, Carr, Caden Powell and Williams all with three fouls before the first half concluded. USA had a slower second quarter but went into the locker room at the half with still a 12-point lead at 46-32.
Skillings hit double-figures to open the third and direct Team USA to an 8-0 run. Team Latvia responded and began chipping away at the lead, coming within four points to USA. Williams with a driving layup put USA back in a nine-point range. However with the help of a driving layup by Williams followed by consecutive plays by Agbim at the arc and a post-up jumper by Carr, USA went into the fourth with a 64-52 lead.
In the fourth, Latvia came out hot out of the break, climbing back to a 68-64 deficit. However, USA responded midway through the fourth, going back up to a 74-65 lead with the help of a Carr second-chance dunk. Carr found his stride in the fourth, picking up multiple big baskets for USA.
A corner-three from White proved to be the final dagger, putting up his team back up as Team USA went on to win over Team Latvia with a final score of 84-77.
