MANHATTAN, Kansas – Baylor track & field heads out of state for the first time of the 2025 season and it makes its way to the DeLoss Dodds Invite hosted by Kansas State at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track from Friday to Saturday.
Baylor will compete against eight teams over the weekend in the Little Apple with Big 12 foes Kansas State and Oklahoma State, as well as Northern Iowa, San Diego State and South Dakota. Other teams sending athletes to compete in the women’s pentathlon and men’s heptathlon are Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Wichita State.
In the first combined events meet of the year, the multis will start competition on Friday at 12 and 12:20 p.m. with the pentathlon 60 meter hurdles. The field events will begin at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the six tracks events starting at 6:15 p.m.
Baylor women’s track & field looks to continue its successful start to the indoor season as the first USTFCCCA rankings of the season had the women’s squad at No. 15 in the nation and No. 5 in the South Central Region.
At Baylor’s last meet at the Corky Classic, the Bears walked away with a multitude of PRs, two events won and two program records broken. Tiriah Kelley clocked the world’s No. 1 time of the season in the women’s 200m at 22.73. Molly Haywood broke her indoor PR mark in the women’s pole vault to win gold in her second consecutive meet at 14-5.5. In the men’s shot put, JL Van Rensburg made his collegiate debut with a bang, breaking the indoor program record at 62-3 and finished in third.
Kelley and Van Rensburg return to the track this weekend alongside Alexis Brown in the women’s long jump and the 60m. In the opening meet of the 2025 season, Brown broke the indoor program record and her PR in the long jump with a 21-10.25 mark. The following meet in Lubbock, Brown competed in the 60m and advanced all the way to the finals to finish fourth overall. Brown will take on both the long jump and the 60m sprint this weekend.
Making their collegiate debuts in the Green and Gold are Igor Olaru in the men’s weight throw and Rickeisha Simms in the 1000m and the 400m.
