Game notes

• Baylor continues its trip in the Grand Canyon State, playing Arizona State on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT from Desert Financial Arena.

• Similarly to Arizona earlier in the week, the Bears and Arizona State have faced off four times in program history, but never in Tempe. BU does have three wins in four games stacked in the Sun Devil’s city, playing Oregon State (L, 76-75) and New Mexico State (W, 67-48) in the 1983 ASU-Dial Classic before a Sweet 16 win over Minnesota and an Elite Eight win over North Carolina en route to the program’s first national championship in 2005.

• The Bears are chasing the best start to conference play in the Nicki Collen era, and would achieve that with a win against the Sun Devils. In each of the past three seasons, Collen and her staff had a 3-2 mark through their first five Big 12 games.

• BU is unscathed all-time against ASU with four straight wins. The two teams first faced off in the 2002-03 season in Waco, with a big 85-62 win in the WNIT.

• Arizona State is 8-8 with a 2-2 record in their introductory season to the Big 12 Conference, suffering a pair of losses to Iowa State and Utah with wins over Texas Tech and Houston.

• Four Sun Devils are averaging double figures, with Tyi Skinner (16.9), Jalyn Brown (16.5), Jyah LoVett (11.2) and Nevaeh Parkinson (10.6). Parkinson, Kennedy Basham and Jazion Jackson each average six rebounds a game.

• Nicki Collen secured the first overtime win of her Baylor tenure in an 81-76 victory over the Arizona Wildcats at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson.

• Entering 0-3 in OT games in the Collen era, BU got its first win in overtime since a March 27, 2021 contest over Michigan.

• Baylor held Arizona to one offensive rebound off 31 misses, marking the fewest allowed since at least the 2000-01 season. In those 25 years, BU never held its opponents to less than three offensive rebounds, the last coming against West Virginia on March 4, 2023.

• BU went into half with a 13-point lead and led by as much as 17 with just over two minutes to go in the second quarter, but the Wildcats used a 61.5% scoring performance in the second half compared to the Bears’ 38.7%.

• Jada Walker paced the Bears in scoring for the second time, putting up 16 points with nine assists and six rebounds.

• Darianna Littlepage-Buggs outscored and rebounded Arizona in the overtime period, getting eight points and three rounds compared to their five points and one rebound.

• Fifth-year senior Sarah Andrews, who has spent all five years in a Baylor uniform, currently sits at T-No. 3 and No. 6 in program history for games played and games started, respectively.

• 148 games played ties her with Caitlin Bickle and Brittney Griner. The overall record of 162 is held by Suzie Snider Eppers from 1973-77 while the Bears competed in the AIAW. In NCAA-only competition, the record is at 149 by Nina Davis (2013-17).
