COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Baylor track & field team opens the 2025 campaign at the R.A. ‘Murray’ Fasken ’38 Indoor Track & Field facility Friday in the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events at 2:10 p.m.



The Bears kickoff the season with second-annual McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational after a successful 2024 season where the Bears claimed 16 All-American recognitions. Of those 15, 12 Bears return for the 2025 campaign. Out of the 12 All-Americans returnees, nine will be competing in Friday’s meet.



“One of the big things that I want out of it is just staying healthy,” head coach Michael Ford stated about going into the season-opener. “And then, honestly, the big thing that we talked about yesterday as a staff is just seeing people compete. You’ve been running with your teammates; you’ve been jumping against your teammates. Now, you’re going against live action … That’s probably the big thing is just staying healthy and just learning how to compete against other people. And I think it’s also different. We’ve had times when we’ve done time trials at practice, but now we want to see how people feel when they’re actually having to warm up and getting those butterflies, things like that. And then, as coaches, we can make adjustments to the next meet, when we go to Tech the week after.”



During last year’s indoor season, the Bears sought after and rewrote the record books. Alexis Brown, Big 12’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year for track & field, broke the program record in long jump with 21-6.25 mark at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, while Alencia Lentz broke the program record and Big 12 Championship meet record in pole vault with a 14-9 attempt.



The reigning Big 12 Outstanding Men’s Freshman of the Year for indoor, Demario Prince, broke the BU program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.62 at the Big 12 Championship. Clocking in at 1:07.44, Nathaniel Ezekiel put the fastest NCAA 600-yard race on a banked track in the record books at the Corky Classic.



A total of 21 Bears will be suiting up for the debut for the green and gold, nine being men and 12 for the women.



Six programs will make the trip to Aggieland for Friday’s meet, including Arizona State, East Texas A&M, North Texas, Tennessee, UTRGV and host school Texas A&M.
