Valencia, Calif.— Baylor women’s golf carded its best round of the week, a 6-over 294, to finish in second place on Tuesday at the Bruin-Wave Invitational at the Valencia Country Club.

BU’s Sera Hasegawa paced the Bears in the final round, tying for fourth with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Junior Silje Ohma was not far behind, tying for sixth after a 1-over 73 on the day.

Baylor’s 28-over 892 was 22 shots behind team champion and host UCLA, and three shots ahead of third-place Pepperdine.

THE RUNDOWN
Hasegawa got off to a steady start to her round, making the turn at even-par after a birdie and a bogey on Nos. 8 and 9. The senior carded another birdie-bogey combo on Nos. 10 and 11 to start the second nine. She closed with a birdie at No. 15 and a bogey on No. 18 to finish the week at 3-over 219.

Ohma had an up-and-down front side with bogeys at Nos. 1, 3, 6 and 8 but closed with birdies on two of her final five holes at Nos. 5 and 9. The junior settled in with a 1-under back nine, highlighted by birdies at Nos. 13 and 18, to finish the week with a 4-over 220.

BaiMai Seema finished strong on Tuesday, shooting a 3-over 75 for the day to finish tied for 18th. Starting four over through her first six holes, the senior settled in with a pair of birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 ahead of a bogey at No. 9. She put together an even-par back nine that started with bogeys at Nos. 12 and 14 but ended with birdies at Nos. 15 and 18. She finished the tournament at 10-over 226.

Jenny Lee started the round with a string of bogeys on Nos. 1, 2, and 3, then landed a birdie on No. 6 to turn at 2-over. A bogey at No. 10 proved to be her lone blemish on the second nine, as she finished strong with a birdie on No. 15 to get back to 2-over for the day and finish with a 15-over 231, good enough for 35th.

Starting the day with a birdie, Ashleen Kaur landed a pair of bogeys right before the turn at Nos. 8 and 9 to finish her front side at 1-over. She dropped three shots on the back nine with a double at No. 11 and a bogey at No. 18. Kaur tied for 40th with a 17-over 233.

QUOTABLE
Jay Goble on the team’s strong finish on Tuesday — “I am very excited about the grit we showed coming down the stretch. We needed to hold our position and grind out some pars and birdies in tough conditions, and we did exactly that. I was really impressed with the way Sera and Silje played on a tricky track this week. They grinded all week and hit some amazing shots.”

WHAT’S NEXT
The Bears will travel to the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., March 3-5.
